The best pitcher in baseball, Clayton Kershaw, is currently on the DL with a herniated disc (sorry Dodgers fans). This is a common cause of low back pain in athletes and regular people alike. Kershaw has already undergone an epidural steroid injection to help control the pain and inflammation and is undoubtably working hard in physical therapy to strengthen his core muscles, which help support his spine. Given his on-field value to the Los Angeles Dodgers (and the 215 million dollars they’ve invested in him), we expect the Dodgers to slow play Kersahw’s return to play.
LA will have to try to hold onto their wild card lead until Kershaw returns; we estimate it will be another 5 weeks (10 weeks from his original injury).
